College life and autism has been an amazing journey for me, filled with new experiences, challenges, growth, and accomplishments.
I am currently a senior at Oakland University. I will be graduating this year with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies. I also have minors in Computer Science and Music. As graduation gets closer, I am excited to look back at everything I have experienced during my time in college.
Music Has Been a Big Part of My College Life
One of my favorite parts of college has been music. I love playing and performing, and Oakland University has given me many opportunities to be involved.
During my time at Oakland, I have played in the Oakland University Orchestra, Steel Drum Group, Grizzly Pep Band, and Jazz Band. Each group has given me a different experience and has allowed me to enjoy something that has always been very important to me.
Music has also helped me meet so many amazing people throughout my college journey. Being part of these groups has given me a chance to connect with other students who share my love of music and to make friendships and memories that I hope will continue long after I graduate.
I definitely want music to remain part of my life. No matter where my career takes me, I hope I can continue playing and performing.
My Goal After Graduation
Along with music, I have a strong interest in computers and technology. That is one of the reasons I chose Computer Science as one of my minors.
After graduation, my dream is to find a job in software design where I can use what I have learned and continue developing my skills.
Being autistic is part of who I am, but it doesn’t define everything about me. My college experience has been about learning, meeting new people, playing music, discovering what I enjoy, becoming more independent, and preparing for my future.
As graduation gets closer, I am excited about what comes next. I don’t know exactly where my journey will take me, but I know I want technology and music to both be part of my future.
College has been an incredible chapter of my life, and I’m ready to see what the next chapter brings.
